What is CCPA Compliant?

The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) is a privacy law in the state of California, USA, that went into effect on January 1, 2020. The CCPA gives California consumers the right to know what personal information companies are collecting about them, the right to request that their personal information be deleted, and the right to request that their personal information not be sold.

To be CCPA compliant, a company must meet certain requirements, such as:

  • Providing California consumers with a notice of their rights under the CCPA

  • Providing California consumers with access to the personal information that the company has collected about them

  • Providing California consumers with the ability to request the deletion of their personal information

  • Providing California consumers with the ability to opt-out of the sale of their personal information

  • Providing California consumers with appropriate security measures to protect their personal information

It's important to note that the CCPA applies to companies that do business in California and meet certain criteria, such as having annual gross revenues in excess of $25 million, buying, receiving, selling, or sharing the personal information of 50,000 or more consumers, households, or devices, or deriving 50% or more of its annual revenues from selling consumers' personal information.

If a company is found to be non-compliant with the CCPA, it may be subject to penalties and fines. Therefore, it's important for companies that do business in California to understand the requirements of the CCPA and take steps to ensure that they are in compliance.
